A Life In The Day Of Seasons

In the beginning we wake with the light
To innocence born in the new dawn of life
In our spring we first crawl and begin then to walk
Soon standing tall as we learn how to talk
Once we can stand and hear our own voice
We sing and rejoice in the rapture of choice
As around us new living springs eternally
The enchantment of this brings us yearningly
To discover the things that we most need to know
To help us stay strong, so stronger we'll grow
Throughout summer months of danger and daring
Growing unhindered in the high noon's glaring
To excitement, adventure then to journeys of thought
That intrinsically link all we've seen and been taught
All that we shall reap we all now shall sow
With the vitality of our fertile life flow
And so it goes... until summertime’s waning
When an autumn wind blows upon daytime's fading
And we find ourselves settled to a more rhythmic beat
More reserved to conserve our life's precious heat
Somewhat learned and in other ways scarred
Slowing down now that we've travelled this far
Our colours will change- cracks of aging now show
On maturing bodies and minds, hearts and souls
The stories of youth now inked on the pages
Those old drying leaves- our tales from the ages
We’re aware that somewhere lifes ending draws near
But life knows no limits and will not live in fear
So when time arrives to the first winter chill
And our old bones and limbs force us to be still
And our old battle scars of our haste wasted youth
Remind us abruptly of cold and harsh truths
We still ponder life with a slow, waxing smile
Our loves and our losses- our trials throughout time
Then as ice consumes all, but the last evergreen
(The remains on the plains of all we have been)
We will drift into sleep and drift out of pain
Life’s embers will pale…
… until life starts again.

The lonely song of a weakening heart

Once more I find myself alone,
at this table set for two.
The evening slowly drifting by,
yet still I sit and wait for you.

The lonely song of a weakening heart,
the melody fading beat by beat.
Is there any hope in this darkening room,
or shall I crush the dreams beneath my feet?

As the red wine bottle empties,
and the candle flames grow small and dim.
The passion that burned begins to die,
once more I put my faith in him.

With the plates back in the cupboard,
and my make up washed away.
The memories of his honest thoughts,
seem from a long and distant day.

Oracle At Delphi

Time to time, my parents tell us
Of their earthquake memories
How did the earthquake strike their village
How did the land raise and howl like a beast
Leveling homes flat one by one.

It was summer of 1969 –a solar event.

The death toll estimated around 3 thousand people
Women and infants mostly
Men were reaping wheat on the fields.

My parents have tears in their eyes
When they go back these days.

At summer of 1999- a solar event too
A major earthquake stroked the coast of Marmara Sea
It had a devastating impact
Around 40 thousand people died
Adapazari, a small city
Turned inside out.

During the event
My parents and siblings were holding hands
Making a circle
And praying mother earth to stop the earthquake.

As in the Delphi Oracle
It must be our Celtic past
-The Celtic Anatolia
Our people are used to be close to mother earth
And its telluric currents
We hold hands and make a circle
To channel out solar impacts
At solar events.
Lived six, maybe eight months
with this older Spanish lady
in the East Village, a few blocks
from where the Fillmore use to be.
She worked as a waitress
and I at not working,
but I was way too young then
to appreciate
all she didn’t have to offer me...

Against the Wall

Against the wall I find myself
The wrong questions
The wrong words
The wrong gestures
Misunderstanding it all
I‘d like to know, I could… I thought
You don’t answer
You ignore …
Sad feelings assault my heart
You take no notice of…
My mind travels to other worlds
Confusion and wonders
Swirling in my head…
What and whys
Lead my thoughts
A time of calm I grab
Be alone for a second
Time has stopped
But for you… has not
You want me to pretend
Nothing went wrong
An unanswered question
Justifies your act
For me not…
Exchange of thoughts
Trying to discover
Who’s right… who’s wrong…?
Crossing the line …we’ll be
If you don’t let go of me
Rainfall of expressions
Leaving hurt behind
Stopping and continuing don’t match
Explanations equal complications
A time alone I want…
To reflect in the questions
The words, the gestures …
To try and understand you better…
That’s all…

Proof of life

Maybe I did say something about getting a gun
and blowing that scumbag interviewer's brains
all over Social Security form 574A
to be filled out in triplicate
then submitted with all appropriate documentation
relating to the matter, when handed to me.
I can't recall it's all a blank now for legal reasons
I really can't get into,

or maybe 1 just walked outside
like I say I did, disgusted
had a cigarette & prayed,
I'd have that heart attack
the VA. Doctors keep telling me
I'm in line for; so while recuperating
at the V A hospital,

their social services department could tackle
all paper work needed to straighten out
this problem I was having with
Social Security,
but either way, and I'm sticking to this!

If one's sitting at a interviewer's desk
in a Social Security office,
photo, drivers licensee, senior citizen
discount bus pass, retirement City I.D. card
laid out in front of them,
ranting & raving.

How they fucked up, cause, look, see!
I'm here talking to you I'm not dead!
I still should be getting my retirement checks,
and its been three months since my last one.

That should be proof enough for anyone
in this day and age that you're not dead,
even a government worker!

The Seasons Swiftly Bid Adieu

An ever-changing point of view,
another Spring, a splendid Fall,
the seasons swiftly bid Adieu.

While memories can long accrue,
the pace of time will thwart recall,
an ever-changing point of view.

Each job or trade that I pursued
has faded like a foul ball,
the seasons swiftly bid Adieu.

The weeks roll past in hidden queue,
with small successes standing tall,
an ever-changing point of view.

While looking back, with glum review
of childhood and curtain call,
the seasons swiftly bid Adieu.

The tinted leaves have leapt into
a zephyr's gust, now winter's squall.
An ever-changing point of view,
the seasons swiftly bid Adieu.
Let’s flee
this infernal chamber
of hesitancy,
climb these
godless walls
of uncertainty,
writhe in
fevers of delirium
Rhetorically Living

"Rhetorically Living...."
By: Kellen M. Parham

What hides behind the realm of words?
Is it everything you've ever seen?
Is it everything you've ever heard?
Is it everything you've ever dreamed?
Or is it just you - in a void that's obscured?

What is it that humbly drives us,
To what awaits us,
That's just not here?
Some may call it faith, where as,
Others may call it fear.

If it could be seen prior,
Or even experienced before;
Would everything that is read as good,
Suddenly be no more?
And, would this realm of words, utterly, cease to exist?
Or just continue on in chaos,
As we live disowning our only true gift?
